Geothermal Technology
Background:
The National Energy Act of 1992
states:
“The Secretary of Energy shall encourage States,
Municipalities, Counties and Townships to consider allowing
the installation of geothermal heat pumps …”
A study conducted in April
1993 by the Environmental Protection Agency recognized that
“… in most climates ground source heat
pumps … save consumers hundreds of dollars annually …”
and that “ … ground source heat pumps had the lowest
CO2 emissions and lowest environmental costs.”
The study further concluded,
“… ground source heat pumps … are
generally very cost effective when replacing standard technologies
… in all areas they offset needed electricity generation
capacity.”
The Department of Energy (DOE)
and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) have both endorsed
ground-source heat pump systems as
“…the lowest operating cost of any device
on the market today...”
Above studies and endorsements were made at oil prices of $25
/ barrel...
